Switzerland is one of the most fabulous resorts to go skiing, especially the most popular destination: Verbier.

Winter Ski Season 2009-10 gets underway

Winter 2009-10 ski season is almost near and with Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland preparing to open in the first few weeks of October.
Many glaciers are opening earlier than planned as snowfall has unexpectedly fallen heavier than in previous years.
Tignes in France is due to open 26th September for this season and is expected to remain open until May 2010. Tignes has one of the longest ski and snowboarding seasons in Europe.
Cervinia is also due to open shortly just on weekends and will fully open a month later, this Italian ski resort is a great ski destination for beginners.
The majority of ski resorts are due to be fully open by the beginning of November.

Here is the latest update of summer ski news from Ski-Direct.co.uk for European resorts:
The French ski slopes will re-open for summer on June 13th 2009, commencing with Les Deux Alpes, followed by Tignes and Val d‚Isere.
In Italy Val Senales opens 13th June 2009, whilst Passo Stelvio re-opened last week for summer skiing, Presensa Glacier above Passo Tonale remained open due to temperatures remaining below zero and more snow expected to fall in the next week or so.
The Swiss ski resorts of Saas Fee remains closed, with Zermatt the only resort in Switzerland with lifts operating.
Norway has the most choice in Europe with fresh snow still falling and three glacier regions open: Stryn, Folgefonn and Galhoppigen.
