On a snow train to the Alps: disco dancing
Mar 9th
Why do people take the train, when they can fly and drive in half the time? If anyone on the Snow Train is asked why they’re there, the same answer will be given. The 2 extra days skiing and the mobile disco.
The disco carriage and bar are sound proof, for those who don’t want to party all night. So the only thing you have to put up with is the noise of party people going back to their couchettes and the rumbling of the train, nothing a good pair of earplugs can’t handle.
An advantage of taking the train is that the baggage allowance in as much as you can carry. Including ski and board equipment for no extra charge. Best is to keep an overnight bag with you and larger cases in the luggage lockers.
There is no buffet car on the Snow Train. Only light snacks can be bought. Its best to take a picnic and to buy food at the Eurostar Buffet or eat at Paris du Nord train station. There is a small bar onboard the snow train, but it is advisable to take your own.
Snow Train passengers change trains in Paris, from Eurostar on the Snow Train. Just a change of platform and reps along the way to guide you.
Each couchette has six fold up beds, with room for two standing, or three but at a push. The journey time from Paris to the last stop is 13 hours and 50 minutes. Very popular with people who enjoy ski holidays.
