BA cancel New York route, replacing with Male and Sharm!
Jun 2nd
The direct flight from London‚s Gatwick airport to New York‚s JFK airport will be dropped in October 2009.
The flight which has run for over a quarter of a century by British Airways is being scrapped due to the lack of profit made, Virgin and Zoom cancelled the route some time ago.
The vacancy will be used to fill slots with BA to Male in the Maldives and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. Flying 3 times a week and operating on Boeing 777 aircraft will be more profitable for BA.
Richard Tams, BA Head of UK and Ireland Sales said, “We‚re particularly pleased to be serving a completely new destination, the Maldives and returning to Sharm El Sheikh. We expect both routes to perform well.
As of October 25th, 2009, the new flight service will commence.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled: it is your right to be reimbursed for your ticket if you are delayed for more than 5 hours and you make the decision to not travel, (please note that you will not be reimbursed for your whole trip, just the flight).
You are entitled to claim for free meals and refreshments from the airline at the airport, as well as 2 free phone calls or emails, if you have to wait over night for a re-scheduled flight you are entitled to a hotel room, for cancellations. If you miss a connecting flight due to your flight being cancelled or is delayed, the airline is responsible for ensuring you are on the next connecting flight.
If the airline have overbooked and you are unable to get the flight you paid for, you are entitled to compensation, if you are at an EU airport or an EU airline is involved you are eligible for a refund or to be transferred onto another flight.
If the company or airline goes into administration/liquidation: if your booking was under an ATOL tour operator you are eligible for full reimbursement on your flight, holiday and transfers (if all part of one package holiday), if this is before you fly, however ATOL are notorious for drawing out the process, especially if a larger tour operator is involved.

Feb 11th
bmi are to bring in a second flight to Tel Aviv from Heathrow due to more demand, the flights currently operate on a twice daily basis on an A321 aircraft. This will be introduced on 30th March 2009. The planes used are also to change to an A330 on 3rd May 2009.
bmi have introduced the new scheme where the use of mobile phones takes over from paper boarding passes. Terminals in Heathrow have special mobile check in machines where customers are able to check-in for holidays, business trips etc and choose seating options all from the use of the phone.
bmi‚s Sales and Marketing Director Katherine Gershon stated, “Other airlines have mobile check-in but passengers still need to go to self-service machines at the airport and get a printed boarding card.
Life for frequent air travellers seems to be getting much easier, with less fuss and paper saving initiatives being introduced.
