Cruise holiday demand continues to rise
Jun 10th
An increasing amount of UK holidaymakers are choosing to go on Cruise holidays, especially cruises which commence in the UK. According to industry experts at the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), 1 in 10 cruises now booked will commence from a port in the British Isles.
Due to the increased demand for UK port of calls for passengers, the PSA are not sure whether UK ports will be-able to cope with increasing passenger numbers.
The Director of PSA, Mr Gibbons said, “We’ve got two types of cruising- cruising from the UK ports or fly cruises. Fly cruises widen your scope in that you can fly to Australia to go on an around the world trip.
An advantage of cruising from the UK is that passengers don‚t have to worry about how much luggage ways; transport to the port may be easier than a fly-cruise.
The most popular destination to cruise is the Mediterranean for the people of the UK; other Europeans tend to favour the Caribbean, which is the UK‚s second favourite cruise destination.
Anniversary of Titanic Voyage remembered
Apr 15th
The anniversary of the fateful voyage of the Titanic is to be remembered with a cruise following the original route the ship sailed 97 years previous, the cruise is set to sail early April 2012.
Approximately 1309 passengers will board the Balmoral cruise liner, owned by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, which has been chosen to follow the route. Commencing in Southampton, with a last port of call at Cobh in Ireland, before calling at Halifax, Nova Scotia and docking in New York, the Balmoral will begin her journey earlier than the Titanic as she is unable to sail as fast as the Titanic, in order to reach the anniversary point where the fateful incident happened.
Everything about the original voyage will be matched, including the food menus and entertainment. With the fascination of the Titanic, the cruise is thought to sell out quickly.
