One of the world’s largest hotel chains claims they have one of the greenest hotels in world in popular city break destination, Copenhagen.

The Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers may not look aesthetically pleasing with its 85 meters of solar panels; it is however, the largest building with solar panel installation in Northern Europe.

The Independent online reports, “The hotel also uses the first groundwater-based heating and cooling system. By drawing water from 100 meters underground, the system effectively uses the earth as a heat source in winter and heat sink in summer.”

To save on energy the hotel management has installed energy saving lighting, computer equipment and kitchen equipment.

According to EU regulations, the hotel meets the standards for a ‘green’ building, which means per guest, emissions are 5.7kg (max) per night; normally they are 8.4kg per night.
