APD will affect Caribbean holidays!
Aug 28th
ABTA is advising UK holidaymakers to act against the Government on its plans to increase Air Passenger Duty (APD), as it claims long haul destinations such as the Caribbean will become unaffordable.
With the Notting Hill Carnival being held in London over August Bank Holiday weekend, an influx of visitors from the Caribbean will be here for the event.
ABTA claim that the cost of flying to the Caribbean could potentially reduce holidays to the archipelago of islands and price British travellers out of the market.
Environmental concerns is the main cause for these tax hikes, however the association believes the EU Emissions Trading Scheme would be a better way forward in tackling effects such as global warming.
Mark Tanzer Chief Executive of ABTA recently said about the governments plan, “They will also discourage tourists from visiting the islands with potentially devastating effects on local economies at an already difficult economic time.
All inclusive, Egypt and Turkey top, this summer!
Aug 28th
UK holidaymakers are continuing to flock to Turkey in a bid to hit the beach and enjoy the summer sunshine, according to a popular travel agency.
Typical British weather has seen many tourists avoid ‚staycationing‚ and jetting off to resorts such as Antalya, Ichlemer and Bodrum.
All inclusive resorts in Egypt have also proved popular this year, with bookings to Sharm El Sheikh up 21% in comparison with summer 2008.
Non-Euro destinations are benefitting most from the downturn summer and many British holidaymakers are making the most of time left to take the kids on a sunnier family holiday before going back to school.
