Plane sailing in the Canaries

Local business men from the Canary Islands have disclosed plans to bring in a seaplane service, operating from Santa Cruz (Tenerife) and Las Palmas (Gran Canaria).

Supporters of the project are for the ease of travelling to and from the islands, saving holidaymakers and business travellers much time getting to and from their local airports, plus seaplanes have minimal environmental impact.

Steven Earl, Spokesperson for Harbour Air Seaplanes said, “The Canary archipelago is an ideal place to establish a seaplane service. Since the optimal duration of flight for these aircraft is 30-35 minutes, with a flying range of between 100-200kms.”

New in the Sun reported, “Potential for seaplane tourism could be a great success factor. Other possible uses for the planes include emergency hospital transfers, from more remote islands directly to the major hospitals in the islands’ capitals.”
