According to a recent survey by travel community TripAdvisor, travellers from all over the world prefer to jet off to the Caribbean for the ultimate festive escape.

The top two spots on were taken by tropical destinations with the Caribbean beating Hawaii to first place.

Traditional Christmas travellers however still abound as shown by Paris and New York coming in third and fourth with London in eigth place.

Other top winter destinations that made it into the top ten were the Maldives, Las Vegas, Tahiti and Thailand.

The survey also revealed that almost 75% of UK holidaymakers would prefer to spend their Christmas break in a hotel than with their friends and family.
