Norway Newcastle ferry service scrapped
May 29th
Tourism officials in Norway and the North East have spoken out over the decision to stop the ferry service from Newcastle to Bergen. Both areas expect to see major losses in visitor numbers and income.
Holidays in Scandinavia have been easily accessible from the North East with the DFDS Seaways ferry service, but now this route is due to end in September.
Ole Warberg, director of tourism for Bergen says: “The British market has been the biggest for us for the last five or six years, with about 200,000 visitors every summer.
“If this route stops it will be a total disaster for Bergen and the Fjord region.”
Wireless access in the air?
May 29th
Holidaymakers probably won‚t have much need for it, but young business travellers want wireless internet access while flying. Almost half of business travellers surveyed recently said they wanted wireless access in the air.
Mobile phones are generally not welcomed by passengers, but internet access seems to be in great demand.
The survey found that two thirds of 18 to 30 year old passengers want internet access, while 41% of 51 to 65 year olds would welcome it.
The survey conducted by Barcleycard Business polled 3,000 business travellers.

May 29th
The Royal Caribbean cruise line‚s two new big ships have been named Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The ships will be some of the biggest cruise ships in the world.
Cruise holidays onboard Oasis will be available from late 2009. The project name of ‚Genesis‚ for both ships has been also been changed to ‚Oasis class‚. The names for the ships were decided after thousands of suggestions from the public were considered by a team of experts.
Royal Caribbean launched ‚Name that Ship‚ contest to name its two new world-class ships and received 91,000 possibilities. Many were duplicates, or names of ships that already exist with other cruise lines.
