U2 go to Morocco to record their next album

The members of U2 have been spotted in and around Fez, Morocco, sparking speculation they are in the country to record their next album.

It‚s not the first time the Irish supergroup have turned to Morocco for inspiration, the video for the single “Mysterious Ways‚ was filmed in Fez by Moroccan film-maker Stephane Sednaoui.

Although nothing has been confirmed by the bands representatives, it has been stated that they are in the process of working on a new album (with long-time collaborators Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno) and that U2 have set up a recording studio in Fez.

If the group are not recording their album in Morocco as believed, it almost certain they were in Fez to attend the Annual World Sacred Music Festival.

Morocco has recently become one of the most popular winter sun holiday destinations for UK holidaymakers, following in the footsteps of other popular north African countries, Tunisia and Egypt.

As well as offering an exotic experience, hotels in Morocco are relatively cheap and flights to Morocco have become more readily available in the last five years.

Spending on holidays is on the rise

A new report claims that the amount of money being spent on holidays by British travellers will continue to rise over the next five years.

The report entitled “The UK Tour Operators Market Development‚ by Market and Business Development, a research company, predicts a rise of 15 per cent on holiday expenditure.

Holiday spending will exceed 28 million pounds by 2012.

The main growth area is set to be in custom holiday bookings, where travellers create their own accommodation and flight bundles, this type of holiday planning is mostly done on the internet.

In comparison, the spending on package holidays looks set to rise by only 3 per cent,

Despite their predictions for this large rise in holiday spending, Market and Business Development warn that the spending increases are relatively low compared to the highs of the last four years.

This period has seen a boom in internet travel bookings, coinciding with the proliferation of low cost flights and competitive price drops in accommodation in some of Europe‚s most popular family holiday destinations.

The Office for National Statistics recently revealed that the number of UK residents travelling overseas rose by 1 per cent in the twelve months preceding July 2007.

Cheap flights are boosting world air travel

The cheap flights on offer from budget airlines are boosting overall worldwide air travel.

The continues rise of budget air travel across Europe is playing a large part in the increase I the number of flights booked across the world, according to statistics revealed by OAG, a UK-based flight information company.

Cheap flights from budget airlines account for 22 per cent of air travel across Europe, this is up 4 per cent on last year.

When looking at the number of passenger seats, no frills flights companies accounted for 30 per cent of air travel across Europe.

Heathrow to Amsterdam is the busiest international route in Europe, as well as being a popular holiday and business destination in its own right, Amsterdam is an important hub for worldwide air travel with connections to airports across the world.

In September 2007 alone budget airlines are offering 133,000 flights and 21.8 million seats for travellers across Europe.

The busiest low cost airline route in the world is currently Mumbai to Delhi.
