Holidays in America boom as pound breaks $2 barrier
The recent strong performance of the pound against the dollar, especially the psychological $2 barrier breakthrough, has prompted a boom in people booking holidays in America.
Sterling has reached its highest level against the dollar in fifteen years.
Bookings of holidays in Florida and other US destinations have already surged and further peaks are forecast by industry experts.
The USA has already been seen as a quality, but value-for-money holiday destination. Florida in particular is regarded as an affordable family holiday spot, despite being a long-haul destination. New York is popular with shoppers, who are able to spend even more than ever before, as it is relatively cheap to enjoy for a major world city.
It’s not just the mainland USA which is expected to benefit from the interest rates change, many Caribbean Islands also use the dollar and are already experiencing more interest from UK holidaymakers.
The only downside is that tourism from the USA into the UK may drop due to Britain being more expensive for American travellers.
